The training of over 600 National Assistance Board (NAB) employees, including those from Home Help, by the National Transformation Initiative (NTI), has been welcomed by Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, under whom the NAB falls.

Minister Humphrey, who witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the NAB and NTI, this week, at the Warren’s Office Complex, told media representatives it was the practice of his Ministry, over the last few years, to make sure staff at all levels in the department were exposed to training.

Stressing this was to ensure that their competences and skills were built and their capacity improved to do their work, he said the Ministry was in the process of amalgamating the service sector, and with this “fairly advanced’, he would like that all staff in the Ministry, including the Permanent Secretary and himself, be exposed to the training offered by the NTI.

The training is expected to place emphasis on ethics, integrity, deportment, personal branding, communication, and teamwork.

Commending NTI’s Director, Dr. Allyson Leacock and her team, Mr. Humphrey, said: “I think it is going to be important going forward if we are to not only deal with the physical needs of people but all their needs…. I think it is a brilliant job done so far and I know that there are several courses offered at NTI and that several Barbadians have already taken up that opportunity.

“I want to encourage other Barbadians to participate in the courses because I think we are at the point now where we have to build our capacity. We have to build our skills, if Barbados is going to continue to be a competitive country.”
