From August 9, Barbadians can tune in to Radio 91.1 FM, the revamped station of the Media Resource Department (MRD), a unit under the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Radio 91.1 FM will broadcast on that day from 9:00 a.m., bringing the public short stories and musical renditions from students across the island, as well as information related to Science, Geography, History, Social Studies, and the upcoming CARIFESTA.

Conceptualised as another medium through which schools can have access to educational resources, Radio 91.1 FM was severely damaged due to the passing of Tropical Storm Tomas in October 2010.

Its transmitter has now been replaced, and has afforded the Ministry the opportunity to re-establish this communication tool for the benefit of schools and the general public.

The broadcast from Wednesday, August 9, through Thursday, August 10, represents a soft launch, and radio broadcasts on the 91.1 FM frequency will resume at the start of the new academic year in September.

However, the MRD expects there will be a full launch during Education Month, in October, when the public will be invited to participate.
