A member of the international business community is hoping that more Barbadians would see the importance of the sector.
President of the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA), Ryle Weekes, who spoke recently at the launch of International Business Week, at the Hilton Barbados, said the sector has provided thousands of Barbadians with rewarding careers and a level of income that is equitable to what is offered in many international metropolitan societies.
Before an audience that included Minister of International Business, Donville Inniss, and key members of the business community, Mr. Weekes noted that while many Barbadians have adopted a ???coping strategy focussed on their day-to-day survival???, it was also important to instill in people a more forward-thinking vision and one that was not myopic.
He underscored that it was, therefore, important to focus on the youth and ???our nation to be in generations to come,??? and this would be achieved during the week of activities, from Sunday, October 20 to Saturday, October 26, when a Schools Symposium and Careers Showcase will be held to allow students to interact with representatives of the business community as well as to become sensitised about the opportunities that the sector holds for them.
Regarded as a viable and important sector for the growth and development of the Barbadian economy, the contribution of the International Business sector will be celebrated under the theme: International Business Barbados???Embrace the Opportunities.
