Managers of national sporting associations are being urged to return nomination forms with their selection of awardees for the Annual National Sports Awards.

An official of the National Sports Council (NSC) reminded the groups that the deadline for returning completed forms was last Friday, November 27. Therefore, she said the managers should immediately send the information to the Council’s headquarters at Blenheim, My Lord’s Hill, St. Michael.

Further information may be obtained by contacting the NSC at telephone number 430-7700.

A number of prizes are expected to be presented when the Annual National Sports Awards Ceremony is held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Frank Collymore Hall. They will be given in several categories, including community, media, schools and family. Awards will also be presented to the Senior Outstanding Sportsperson, the Junior Outstanding Sportsperson, the National Sports Personality and the Emerging Athlete.

The Sports Personality title for 2008 was won by Ivorn McKnee, who received a gold medal last year at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. He also won gold at the 2009 Commonwealth Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships in Malaysia.

The national sports awards ceremony was started 26 years ago in an effort to recognise and reward outstanding sports personalities. It has grown over the years, with several other categories being added.
