It is only a matter of time before Barbados has a fully fleshed out National Sports Policy.
This disclosure came today from Minister with responsibility for Sports, Stephen Lashley, as he addressed the launch of the 2017 Junior Tennis Tournament, at the Wildey Tennis Centre.
Mr. Lashley reassured the young players present that his Ministry was diligently working to develop the legislation. “We are at a very advanced stage of the development of a National Sports Policy which is aimed at bringing all of the various elements of the resources together to bear on the transformation of this sector,” he stated.

The Minister said that it was his hope that the legislation would create the kind of incentives that would drive the development of sporting businesses in the country.
He also revealed that one of the areas being examined was encouraging federations, such as the Tennis Association, to embrace “more strategic governance structures”.
Mr. Lashley maintained that once properly positioned, sports as an industry could help to further transform the Barbadian economy.
“Not only can it offer careers and jobs for our young people, but tournaments such as this can bring very much needed foreign exchange into Barbados,” he noted.
