The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is inviting young persons aged seven to 18 to participate in a series of workshops for the 2017 Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch Competition.
Participants of the Developing an Artiste Junior Monarch Workshops must either be citizens of Barbados or have legal residency.
The first workshop entitled: The Craft of Songwriting, is scheduled for this Saturday, April 8, with the main focus being an Introduction to Songwriting; Lyrics and Melody; and the Elements of a Song.
Developing Stage Presence and Branding is the second workshop, which will be held on Sunday, April 9. The topics to be discussed are Dressing for Success and Developing a Personal Brand; Public Speaking; and Microphone Techniques.
The penultimate workshop, The Complete Package, will be held on Saturday, April 15. Its focus will be on Preparation and Delivery for Media Interviews; and Question-and-Answer Sessions.
The final workshop in the series, Taking it to the Stage, will take place on Saturday, April 22. This workshop will focus on Stage Etiquette, as well as a Review of Rules and Regulations, and a Monarchs ‘give back’ session.
Participants will have the opportunity to be trained by some of the island’s most notable performers including: Stedson ‘RPB’ Wiltshire, Anthony ‘Gabby’ Carter, Amanda Cumberbatch and Jennifer Sealy. All workshops will take place at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.
