The need for direct airlift from Brazil to Barbados was the main issue discussed recently, when that country’s new Ambassador to Barbados, Appio Claudio Acquarone, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Maxine McClean.

Noting that further cooperation could be achieved between the two countries, especially in the areas of tourism and trade, the two officials agreed that this should be given some priority in the continuing relationship.

They also touched on the success Brazil had achieved in agriculture, especially through the introduction of new technologies; the transferring of such technology; the possibility of teacher exchange programmes at the secondary and tertiary levels; and the upcoming Brazil/CARICOM Summit.

Brazil and Barbados established diplomatic relations in 1971, and have traditionally enjoyed a harmonious relationship. Brazil maintains an Embassy here, while this country has two Honorary Consuls there, located in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. emcclean@barbados.gov.bb
