Major construction firms and private building companies have been taking full advantage of the Barbados National Standards Institution’s (BNSI) Compression Testing capabilities.

Word of this has come from the Chief Technical Officer, Haydn Rhynd, who said that on a daily basis, testing was carried out on concrete blocks, cubes and other materials used in the building industry in the BNSI’s soil and testing materials laboratory.

He made these disclosures to the media following a tour of its Culloden Road, St. Michael, administrative office and laboratories, by Minister of Economic Affairs and Empowerment, Innovation, Trade, Industry and Commerce, Dr. David Estwick and other officials.

He said the paid service was also available to members of the public. “It is not just for large industries, we also take requests from the public. So, you can come into the laboratory and bring your cubes and your blocks and we will expedite the process for you.”

Further information on the fee structure may be obtained by calling the BNSI at telephone number 426-3870.
