The Government Hill Nursery School (GHNS) will be extending its roof to the rear of the building, come September 2011.?? The renovation is expected to provide children enrolled there with much valuable shade while at play and work.
To achieve this, the nursery school, located at Government Hill, will host its annual Easter Hat/Bonnet Parade and Fun Day next Saturday, April 23, to raise funds.
The event will be held on the grounds of the nearby Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School. It starts at 1:00 and runs until 6:00 p.m.
Principal Reba Harewood explained that the awning would also be used to facilitate outdoor teaching and other activities at the school.
In addition to the usual parade of hats and bonnets by the boys and girls respectively, there will be modelling of casual and formal wear. Children will also be treated to the usual fair activities including pony rides, face-painting, Lucky Dips, and a jumping tent. There will also be Tombola, food and variety stalls.
The GHNS, with a roll of 119, was officially opened in May 24, 1972, by then Minister of Education, Erskine Sandiford, now Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford. A gift from the Jaycees of Barbados, it provides early childhood education for those aged three to four.
Members of the public are invited to attend the event.
