Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, has described the recently-concluded 22nd Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Tourism as a success.

Speaking to the media at the end of the two-day event last Thursday, the Tourism Minister said Barbados got the opportunity to host a very important conference ???within the context of the OAS and particularly the section that deals with tourism culture???.

???It was a successful conference and beyond that, we are still a tourism destination that is a good place to have conferences, and also successful from that point of view, is the deepening of the relationship with the OAS. In another two weeks, the Labour Ministers will be meeting in Barbados and in 2016, the Culture Ministers will be meeting here.

???So, there is a lot happening with the OAS and Barbados, and Barbados is assuming its appropriate role of leading this very important hemispheric institution,??? Mr. Sealy said.

The Inter-American Congress was established in 1939 and brings together ministers and high-level tourism authorities from the hemisphere, as well as representatives from the private sector and civil society. This year???s event attracted delegates from 25 OAS territories, and was convened at Hilton Barbados from September 3 to 4.

The theme for this year???s Congress was Tourism Competitiveness: An Essential Element of Sustainability. During the sessions, presentations were built around themes such as Measuring Competitiveness: Price Versus Non-Price Factors in Tourism; Importance of Tourism Infrastructure; and Sustainable Destination Management.
