Activities to mark Mental Health Month begin on Sunday, October 9, with a church service at Holy Innocents Church, Ashford, St. Thomas, at 9:00 a.m.

On Monday, October 10, World Mental Health Day, there will be an Appreciation Day for the staff of the Psychiatric Hospital.

On Friday, October 14, the public is invited to an Open Day and a health fair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the hospital, Black Rock Main Road, St. Michael.

Activities will include cholesterol checks, stress tests, blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing and a presentation by the National Council on Substance Abuse.

The public is also invited to participate in a 5K Fun Walk and Run on Sunday, October 16, starting at the Psychiatric Hospital’s grounds at 4:00 p.m., and ending at Brandons Beach.

A football tournament is scheduled for October 17 to 23, and a cricket match comes off on October 20 at the hospital’s grounds.

Sunday, October 23, will be the date of the annual Patients’ Concert for specially invited guests, including family and friends of the patients.

The theme for Mental Health Month 2016 is Dignity in Mental Health: Psychological and Mental Health First Aid for All.
