Topics to be covered will include: Baby Matters, Managing Finances, Sexuality, Dealing with Troubled Teens, Domestic Violence, Managing Finances, Health and Family Life, Conflict Resolution and Anger Management, Positive Parenting Skills and Accessing Social Services.

The first set of seminars will be held at Youth With A Mission, Thickets, St. Philip; St. James Parish Church; Massiah House, Massiah Street, St. John; Mayers Road Pentecostal Church, My Lord’s Hill, and Carrington Wesleyan Church, Welches, St. Michael; and Ellerton Wesleyan Church and Ellerton Community Centre, St. George.

This training forms part of Government’s Parenting Support and Education Programme, which is designed to foster and assist family units. It is aimed at offering parents the necessary knowledge and skills which will empower them to comfortably and confidently raise their children. It is also expected to equip them with the tools needed to develop healthy relationships within their households, communicate effectively and encourage parent to child interaction.

Government allocated over $400,000 this financial year to the programme, and 240 parents are expected to be trained.
