Everything is on track for Saturday’s planned 4R’s Fair.

That is the word from Management Coordinator with the Solid Waste Project Unit, Thora Lorde, who said arrangements were well in place for the annual Fair slated to come off this Saturday, February 5, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Plans are well under way, everything is in place for Saturday. We?? are looking forward to the event and we are hoping that Barbadians would come out?? in their numbers to?? give their support , as well as to learn more about?? all four of the R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover .

"Patrons will have an opportunity to win a prize that will assist them in their recycling efforts at home, view presentations and short films on the 4R’s, and interact with exhibiting recyclers, as well as individuals and organisations awarded for environmental consciousness."

Ms. Lorde explained that a total of six awards will be presented to winning schools and community groups, who, through their efforts, have helped to reduce the amount of waste going to the island’s landfill.

Minister of the Environment, Water Resources and Drainage, Dennis Kellman, will deliver the feature address to officially open the Fair, and this will be followed by the presentation of the awards.

A series of scheduled presentations will follow the opening ceremony. The schedule is as follows:?? 11:00 a.m. -?? Puppet Show by the Future Centre Trust;?? 11:20 a.m. – Home Composting Presentation by David Bynoe of the?? Ministry of Agriculture; 12:20 p.m. – Short film on Harrison’s Cave; 12:35 p.m. – Green Living Programme by?? The University of the West Indies; 1:05 p.m.– Puppet Show by the Future Centre Trust; 1:25 p.m. – Short film by the Future Centre Trust; 2:00 p.m. – Short film by the Ministry of the Environment – The Story of Stuff; 2:35 p.m. – Puppet Show by the Future Centre Trust; 2:55 p.m. – Short Film on Harrison’s Cave; 3:10 p.m. -?????? Short film by the Solid Waste Project Unit – The Burning Agenda; and 3:50 p.m. – Short Film on Harrison’s Cave.????????????

Some 20 exhibitors are expected to erect booths at the Fair. These include: Caribbean E-Waste Management; Solid Waste Solutions & Services; B’s Recycling; the Future Centre Trust; Paradise Green Energy Inc.; Machinery & Allied Engineering Services; Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre; and ACE Recycling.

A number of departments that fall under the aegis of the Ministry of the Environment will also be represented.??
