Prime Minister Freundel Stuart recently paid a two-day visit to New Zealand at the invitation of its Government.

The visit provided the Prime Minister with an opportunity to tour the Rotokawa Geothermal Plant, via the Aratiatia Hydro Dam.

In addition, the Barbados delegation also visited the Plenty Flora GNS Science Joint Venture Company, which uses geothermal energy to heat glasshouses for commercial production of gerberas.

Special Envoy for Renewable Energy, Mike Allen, accompanied the Caribbean and African delegations making the official visit to New Zealand at the conclusion of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), in Samoa.

Mr. Stuart also held discussions with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key. In addition, he paid a courtesy call on the Governor General of New Zealand, Lieutenant General Sir Jeremiah Mateparae, where they discussed bilateral relations, SIDS issues, and international affairs.

One of the highlights of the visit was a ceremony at the Te Puia Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, which provided an insight into Maori culture in New Zealand.
