The Barbados Prison Service will celebrate its annual week with several activities beginning October 14 to 21, under the theme Second Chance.??

The department will start the week with a church service at the St. Philip Parish Church, on Sunday, October 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

On Monday, October 15, starting at 10:00 a.m. there will be an exhibition and open day and persons are invited to H.M.P Dodds to learn more about what a prison officer’s job entails.?? There will be tours of the prison library, the workshops and female inmates section of the prison.

The following day, Tuesday, October 16, starting at 10:00 a.m. the Barbados Prison Service and the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) will face off in the Lionel Maloney 20/20 Cricket Tournament, at Dodds, St. Philip.?? That same afternoon at 2:00 p.m., there will be a five-man football tournament between the BDF, Police and the Prison Service.

An employee health and wellness day will be the focus on Wednesday, October 17, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Philip facility.?? Members of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Barbados Cancer Society, nutritionists and a podiatrist will be on hand to answer any queries and to share information with the public.

On Thursday, October 18, at 10:00 a.m., there will be a sports day on the prison compound and officers will compete in netball, volleyball, basketball, road tennis and dominoes.

An exciting, fun-filled day is expected on Saturday, October 20, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., when the prison holds its fundraising fair on the compound.?? There will be plenty of activities and inmates will perform in a special concert for patrons.?? Members of the public are invited to rent stalls.

The week will culminate on Sunday, October 21, with the launch of the Second Chance Foundation, which will introduce its first Yellow Ribbon 5km Run/Walk beginning at 6:00 a.m. It will get under way from the Emerald City car park and end at H.M.P Dodds.???? Support groups, parents and children of inmates and members of the public are invited to participate in this worthy cause.?? Persons are asked to come out wearing yellow.
