The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 3.1 per cent in November 2017, when compared with the previous month.

This was due to increases in the indices for Mining and Quarrying of 4.5 per cent, and Manufacturing of 5.6 per cent. The index for Electricity, Gas and Water decreased 2.9 per cent.

According to data produced by the Barbados Statistical Service, the IIP for November 2017, increased by 2.4 per cent when compared to November 2016. There were increases in the indices for Mining and Quarrying of 78.2 per cent and Manufacturing of 2.7 per cent.  However, the index for Electricity, Gas and Water declined by 2.9 per cent.

The output for the Mining and Quarrying Sector increased by 78.2 per cent at the end of November 2017, when compared to the previous year. This was as a result of increases in the indices for Stone and Quarrying of 103.0 per cent and Mining of 12.9 per cent.

The performance of the Manufacturing Sector increased by 5.6 per cent in November 2017, when compared to October 2017. Year-on-year output for November 2017, increased by 2.7 per cent due to increases in the indices for Food of 1.2 per cent; Beverages and Tobacco of 34.0 per cent; Wearing Apparel of 0.7 per cent; and Non-Metallic Mineral Products of 19.2 per cent.  There were decreases, however, for Wooden Furniture of 3.7 per cent; Chemicals of 25.5 per cent; Electronic Components of 39.7 per cent and Other Manufacturing of 1.0 per cent.

The Electricity, Gas and Water Sector decreased by 2.9 per cent when compared with the previous year. This was due to a decrease in the consumption of Electricity of 1.3 per cent; the generation of Natural Gas of 36.4 per cent; and the consumption of Water of 9.4 per cent.
