Special Education Tutor at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, Dr. Judy Lynch, is encouraging persons, particularly parents and nursery school teachers, to take advantage of the Introduction to Special Needs Course, being offered by the College.

Dr. Lynch said the course will especially benefit those parents who may have difficulty understanding any physical or mental challenges their children may be experiencing, noting that “they will be provided with the necessary background knowledge”, thus improving their parenting skills.

The one-year course begins on Tuesday, September 4 and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m.  Topics to be covered include:  History and Development of Special Education, Policy and Legislation in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Physical and Health Impairment, and Speech and Communication Disorders.

After successful completion, students may go on to pursue the Special Needs Provision Course.

The full fee must be paid in advance and government teachers will pay half the cost.  Registration continues until Friday, August 31 and interested persons may contact Winston Mayers or Marilyn Smith at 429-3620 for further information.
