PUBLIC/PRIVATE SECTOR CONSULTATION THIS FRIDAY

Economic and related issues will come into focus when representatives of the public and private sectors meet at the Sherbourne Conference Centre this weekend, for their annual consultation.

The two-day meeting, which commences on Friday, October 12, at 9:00 a.m., will have as its theme “Safeguarding the Future; Engendering Global Resilience”

At the official opening ceremony, remarks will be delivered by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Owen Arthur; Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Ben Arrindell; and Vice President of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, Hartley Reid.

The presentations on the first day will focus on “What can be done to contain Inflation in Barbados” and “New Training Initiatives to meet Labour Demand”.

Over the two days, there will also be breakout sessions which will examine “The Impact of a Minimum Wage on the Barbados Economy; Financial Services Liberalisation and Capital Market Development; and The Study on the Competitiveness of the Distributive and Retail Sector and the Economic Impact of Port Charges in Barbados”.
