Operators of private child care centres have been reminded that they must register their businesses or renew their licences by January 31, 2013.

An official of the Child Care Board (CCB) has reminded operators that "it is illegal to operate any such establishment without a Certificate of Registration" from the Board. "Failure to comply with the Child Care Board’s Regulations may result in closure or a penalty, which is a fine of $500 and or six months imprisonment," she explained.

The spokesperson stressed that all applications must be accompanied by certificates of inspection from the Barbados Fire Service and the Ministry of Health, as well as an appropriate food licence issued by that Ministry. Current medical certificates and Certificates of Character for all staff, as well as recent Food Handler’s Certificates for those who will deal with food, are also required.

According to the official, all new applications and relocations must have the written approval of the Chief Town Planner to operate from the proposed site, and a Certificate of Registration from Corporate Affairs.

All changes to original applications should be reported in writing to the CCB’s Director, Fred Edghill Building, Cheapside, St. Michael. ??Additional information on the registering process may be obtained by telephoning 426-2577.
