Barbados could soon be forging linkages with Russia in the areas of youth development, sports and culture.

Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, recently met with Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Nikolay Smirnov, and outlined several areas of interest to the Barbados Government.

Mr. Lashley told Mr. Smirnov that Russia had a rich history as it related to museums and said Barbados was grappling with the issue of preservation of its buildings. "We are looking to restore a number of buildings, but funds are limited. Therefore, any technical and financial assistance in preservation would be welcomed," he stated.

Mr. Smirnov also highlighted several matters during the talks, including the Winter Olympics which will be held in Russia in 2014.
