Another Government department is moving to educate its staff about healthy lifestyles.

It is the School Meals Department, which will, next Friday, October 14, launch its Health Education Committee and start its HIV and AIDS Awareness programme for staffers.

The launch will take place at the Barbados Shipping and Trading’s Training Facility, Coles Building, Bay Street, St. Michael from 10:00 a.m.?? It will be addressed by the manager of the department, Dr. Marcilia Nelson.

Following the event, the School Meals Department will host three, one-day seminars on HIV and AIDS for school meals servers from Monday, October 17, to Wednesday, October 19. These are expected to cover HIV -The Basics; Sexually Transmitted Infections; Stigma and Discrimination; Risk Reduction and Condom Use.

The aim of the workshops is to sensitise workers about the dangers of HIV and AIDS and it is hoped that at the end of the sessions the information would be shared with family and members in the community.

A total of 300 workers are expected to be trained by the end of these sessions, which will be conducted each day in the Ministry of Education’s Conference Room at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road.
