While Barbados’ 43rd anniversary of independence may be months away, some parishes have already begun preparations for this year’s celebrations, with several activities scheduled for June.

One such parish is St. Philip, whose independence committee is seeking residents to participate in its annual talent show. Persons are invited to represent their parish in dance, poetry, drama, singing or even a unique form of entertainment.??

The deadline for registration is Friday, June 26, 2009 and interested persons are asked to contact Michael Mason at 253-7666.

Meantime, the St. Andrew Parish Independence Committee will be hosting its parish talent show entitled, "From de Clay" on Saturday, June 27, at the Alleyne School, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Residents of St. Andrew are especially invited to attend and support their local talent.

The St. Michael Parish Independence Committee will also launch its parish project, "St. Michael GREEN TEAM" on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Independence Square, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Persons are invited to come and learn more about the project, view some of the related paraphernalia and find out how they can get involved in the activity.

Further information on all of these events may be obtained by contacting the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat at 427-6675 or 436-9660.
