Members of the public, including fitness enthusiasts, are being encouraged to register for the upcoming Digicel & Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Have A Heart Charity Walk and Run.

Persons may register at Lingwood Hall, Barbados Defence Force, St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St. Michael, on Thursday, August 9, and Friday, August 10, between 10:00 a.m. and noon, and again from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

In addition, persons may register between 4:45 and 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, the day of the walk and run. Those persons who have already registered for the events may visit the BDF to collect their registration packages.

The walk and run will begin at 6:00 a.m. at the Barbados Coast Guard, HMBS Pelican, Spring Garden, St. Michael, and participants will travel to Fontabelle, Cheapside, Broad Street, Probyn Street and Bay Street, culminating at the headquarters, St. Ann’s Fort.

After the charity event, a Corporate and Health Fair will be held at the BDF from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and members of the public are invited to attend.  Organisations on display will include the Diabetes Association of Barbados, the Chronic Disease Research Centre, Hibiscus Health Caribbean Inc., and the HIV Testing and Counselling Section in the Ministry of Health.

The BDF is seeking to raise $25,000 from the charity walk and run and boot camp series, which will be donated to Precious Touch Foundation Inc., an organisation which assists children with life-threatening medical conditions or terminal illnesses, to realise their wishes.

In 2016, the BDF raised $10,000 for the Precious Touch Foundation Inc., and in 2017, the amount collected was $13,764.10.

For additional information on the boot camps or the charity walk and run, interested persons should call Harriet Clarke at 536-2912 or 836-3160, or Captain Michael Jules at 536-2590 or 836-3162.
