Bonnetts Resource Centre was transformed into a spa yesterday, as the Community Development Department hosted an Open Day for its Nail Technology programme.

Students who participated in the 14-week course which took place at the Brittons Hill, St. Michael institution and the Community Centre in the Ivy, St. Michael, treated residents from the area and surrounding districts to a wide range of services, for a small fee. Visitors received pedicures, manicures, massages, facials, and even applied tips to their own nails.

Course instructor, Joycelyn Harewood, expressed her satisfaction with the turnout for the Open Day, which she said was the norm. She noted that the event, which is usually held at the end of the programme, showcases the different cosmetology techniques which the students had learnt.

She added that the programme was designed to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit which would assist persons during the current economic situation.

Community Development Aide assigned to the Bonnetts Centre, Petra Chase, reiterated the instructor’s sentiments and noted that their aim is to help people find employment during these difficult times. She also deemed the programme as a means of bringing the community together.
