"At that session, we will pull together our document and, within a month, we should have a five-year draft strategic plan for confirmation by the Ministry," he stated.

Underscoring the importance of the Strategic Plan at this time, Mr. King stressed that it would document the Council’s mission and pinpoints the critical path to achieving it.

Key members of several sporting associations, senior coaches and Board members of the Council participated in the workshop and the Director said he was satisfied with their input.

While addressing the opening ceremony at that meeting, Minister of Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, told the gathering not to look primarily at the individual needs of their respective associations’, but to focus on the broader areas’, where the benefits for the country would be greatest.

"I would also urge you to examine and come up with firm suggestions on how the Council can best serve you as stakeholders and the people you represent, and also how best to deliver that service," Dr. Byer Suckoo said.

She stressed that the NSC had made a significant contribution to the sporting landscape in Barbados and regionally, and suggested that the time had come for it to move forward.
