The Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be temporarily relocated to the Antenatal Clinic on the same compound from the evening of Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9.
This is to facilitate preventative maintenance in the A&E Department, which is carried out annually.
Entry to the temporary A&E Department will be through the glass doors on the ground floor of the Lions Eye Care Centre.
These doors are to the right of the main entrance to the QEH and can be accessed via the main entrance roadway.
Director of Engineering Services at the QEH, Paula Agbowu, explained that because the A & E was a 24-hour, seven days a week, year-round operation, it was necessary to relocate it in its entirety during maintenance works to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
The work to be carried out includes major cleaning, servicing of equipment, maintenance of all systems such as air-conditioning, plumbing and electrical, as well as painting and repairs to floor coverings.
The Department will re-open in its regular location on the evening of Monday, June 9. The QEH management urges the cooperation of the public during the exercise and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
