The needs of a disabled traveller may differ from the mainstream; but these are no less significant than conventional ones.

This sentiment will be the focus of an Inclusive Tourism symposium, to be hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Barbados Council for the Disabled.?? It will be held on Tuesday, October 4, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre from 8.30 a.m.

The event, a feature of the Fully Accessible Barbados (FAB) programme, will seek to sensitise and inform those in the tourism industry about how to cater to this growing travel segment.??

Dr. Scott Rains, an Inclusive Tourism Specialist from the United States, will deliver the feature presentation on Working Towards a Fully Accessible Barbados, in an effort to provide a greater understanding of this sector, which represents some two million people.??

The FAB programme, which has also been adopted as a tourism initiative, was created to raise awareness among tourism stakeholders; educate workers in the sector about the needs of disabled visitors; and award institutions which have made their services and facilities accessible for all.
