Various groups in the Ivy and surrounding areas will receive additional training next month in an effort to strengthen their capacity within these communities.

The Community Development Department of the Ministry of Social Transformation will host a workshop every Saturday from September 1 to October 13, at the Ivy Community Centre, Ivy, St. Michael.

Those groups interested in participating should contact Jacqueline Pinder at the Ivy Community Centre at telephone number 427-6916.

Topics to be discussed during the seminar include “Understanding Your Community”, “Relationships and Responsibility in the Home and in the Community”, “Issues in various levels of interaction”, and “Behaviour Change”.

This programme was launched in 2002 and its objectives are to develop a broad-based effective and efficient HIV/AIDS Committee in the Ivy and to provide training in committee functioning, community mobilisation and on issues of HIV/AIDS at the community level.

Sixteen HIV/AIDS Committees have been developed across the island following the programme’s birth.
