The Ministry of Community Development and Culture expresses its deepest sympathies and extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Dr. Ikael Tafari, Director of the Commission for Pan-African Affairs in Barbados.

Dr. Tafari was a unique man in many respects and he will long be remembered as such. He must however, be remembered, for his invaluable contribution to the establishment and continued operations of the Commission for Pan-African Affairs. He joined the Commission at its inception in 1998 as Deputy Director and saw it through its fledging years. He assumed the leadership role in 2004 when be became Director of the Commission, an office which he held until his death.

Dr. Tafari was a man of rich intellect, a truly independent thinker. His vision transcended local boundaries. His was an international perspective. He was totally committed to his philosophy of and his aspirations for Pan Africanism and the advancement of Caribbean/African relations. Some may have disagreed with him on occasion, but he remained loyal to his convictions. 

Dr. Tafari’s extensive research over the years will be of lasting benefit, and through his legacy, he will live on.
