Staff at the Technical, Vocational, Education and Training Council (TVET) recently learned to Walk the Talk, when one of their own won a top spot in a health and wellness programme, which challenged staff of various organisations to adopt healthier lifestyles.

While the Council placed seventh overall, TVET???s Gayle Alleyne emerged as the top individual and top female participant in the programme, having completed over two million steps during the challenge, which ran from April to July.

Some 15 TVET Council members participated in the challenge, including Senior Technical Officer, Paul Puckerin, who walked more than a million steps. Coordinator of the initiative, Administrative Officer Shirleen Inniss, observed that it was ???in keeping with the organisation???s goals of implementing a health and wellness programme for staff???.

She added that ???even though the official component of Walk the Talk was concluded, the Council would continue to encourage staff to exercise and get regular health checks in order to be healthy workers and individuals.???

A collaborative exercise between the Small Business Association, Barbados Employer???s Confederation and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Walk the Talk challenged participants to walk a minimum of 10, 000 steps a day, the equivalent of 30 minutes of exercise. Competitors had to achieve at least 850,000 steps to successfully complete the challenge.
