As natural disasters continue to plague the region and the international community, some agencies are seeking to heighten awareness on the need for increased attention on disaster risk reduction.

To this end, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), in partnership with the Department of Emergency Management and the Caribbean Department Emergency Management Agency, will celebrate the International Day for Disaster Reduction, tomorrow, Thursday, October 13.

Under the theme: Making Children and Young People Partners for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UNDP will launch its programme Step Up for Disaster Risk Reduction, which will provide an avenue for the voices of the youth through presentations on issues of disaster risk, mitigation and preparedness.

The launch will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 13 at UN House, Marine Gardens at 1:30 p.m.??
