Minister of Finance, Christopher Sinckler, is hopeful that a new vista of business opportunities would be created out of the just concluded Foromic 2012 microenterprise conference.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the forum at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre recently, the Minister said the 15th Foromic, held in the English-speaking Caribbean for the first time, was an opportunity to build bridges for the benefit of small, micro and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

He explained that bridges were also built between the Multilateral Investment Fund and Barbados as well as among the participants who networked with the "best brains" in the microfinance industry.

"I am positive that those relationships which have developed through the extensive networking which has taken place will lead to numerous business opportunities for many of you and that is, as it should be," Mr. Sinckler emphasised.

The Minister of Finance proffered the view that the wealth of information provided during the plenary sessions would result in improvements in the area of microfinance and businesses.

"As would have been said many times over the past few days during the sessions, every opportunity, including opportunities provided by an event like Foromic must be taken, as countries around the world seek to rebuild their economies in the wake of the economic catastrophe," Mr. Sinckler underlined.

He further stated: "This forum always reminds us of the need to constantly find ways to reduce poverty in our countries not only through larger activities but, by small successes which together can grow."

Mr. Sinckler added that the success achieved would allow Foromic to "retain its position as the leading microfinance forum and to remain one of the most important events on the calendar of the Multilateral Investment Fund".

The three-day forum, under the theme: Unlocking Entrepreneurship: Towards Innovative Solutions, which began on Monday, October 1, concluded on Wednesday, October 3.
