Hundreds of Barbadians ???let their feet do the talking’ during the Ministry of Health’s and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (BCCI) inaugural Walk The Talk event in The City, last Saturday.

Approximately 500 people, representing 54 businesses, commenced the walk from Independence Square around 4:00 p.m. for the two-hour trek through Bridgetown. Minister of Health, John Boyce, who was accompanied on the walk by his wife Caroline, lauded the initiative saying that the event had the potential to reduce the cost of health care by tackling one major aspect of Government’s Health care bill- non-communicable diseases.

Walk the Talk will continue on a corporate level with businesses logging their employees’ steps over a 12-week period using pedometers. Each company will be responsible for the programme’s implementation. At the end of the three months, businesses are expected to tally their employees’ steps, submit them to the BCCI and the participant with the most recorded steps will be declared the winner. The winning company will receive a plaque, while the individual winner will be awarded with a staycation.
