Members of the public are being encouraged to wear green on Tuesday, June 5, in celebration of World Environment Day.

School children, Government officers and all citizens are being encouraged to wear green T-shirts, green ribbons or green articles of clothing in celebration of the day, which will have a special focus on the creation of the green economy.

Environmental Education Officer in the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage, Donna King-Brathwaite, said that all those who wore green on World Environment Day would be demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Mrs. King-Brathwaite noted that the theme for this year’s Environment Month was: Living Sustainably… Respecting Our Heritage In Shaping A Green Economy, and was chosen to look at the green economy being the conduit for moving towards sustainable development.

Environment Month is celebrated in Barbados during the month of June and a number of events have been planned by the Ministry and its departments.
