Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Patrick Todd

Staff of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development are back on the job today following an incident yesterday which caused an early end to the workday.

According to Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Patrick Todd, “at about 3:00 p.m. yesterday, staff in the main building of the Ministry reported that they felt a tremor in the building. They subsequently evacuated the building and went into the carpark, following which permission was granted for them to leave the premises,” he explained.

Minister Todd revealed that “following a visit from a technical team from the Ministry of Transport and Works, the structural integrity of the buildings housing the Ministry of Education was confirmed.

“We were also advised that as a result of the work being undertaken in the vicinity of the Ministry, which involves a 10 ton steam roller,  that we could expect to experience further tremors. We have, however, been assured that the situation poses no danger to persons on the compound,” he stressed.

Mr. Todd added that “in the future, necessary measures will be put in place to ensure that staff is alerted in advance of any pending works by the MTW. This would aid in preventing any panic situation,” Minister Todd outlined.
