The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is encouraging principals to use this day to recognise the contribution of their teachers.?? A message from the Minister with responsibility for Education, Ronald Jones, will also be read on this day in all schools.

World Teachers’ Day was first introduced in 1994 by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.?? Its aim is to moblise support for teachers and ensure that the needs of future generations are met by educators.

The commemoration forms part of activities organised by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development during October, to honour the contribution of teachers. The theme for Education Month is "Embracing a Positive Attitude: The Impetus of Achievement". kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
