Students from 10 primary and secondary schools across the island will, over the next few weeks, learn more about the Ministry of Labour’s Great Attitude, Initiative, Values and Excellence (GIVE) Education Schools’ Programme.

A team from the Ministry will be visiting the schools during morning assembly to make various presentations in the form of drama to the children.

Schools to be visited are: St. John’s Primary on Tuesday, September 22; Parkinson Memorial Secondary on Friday, September 25; Springer Memorial Secondary on Tuesday, September 29; Coleridge and Parry School on Friday, October 2; Alma Parris Memorial Secondary on Monday, October 5; St. Paul’s Primary on Thursday,

October 8; The Lester Vaughan School on Monday, October 12; Gordon Greenidge Primary the following day, Tuesday, October 13; Christ Church Foundation School on Monday, October 26; and Grantley Prescod Primary will cap it off on Tuesday, October 27.

The GIVE programme is the Ministry of Labour’s response to the National Initiative for Service Excellence, and it focuses on several areas of professional conduct, including attitude, attendance/absenteeism, honesty and integrity, dress/appearance, performance, communication and customer service.

Its objectives are to improve employer and employee attitudes in the public and private sectors, and to promote standards of appropriate behaviour in the workplace.

The schools’ component has been added to impress upon children, who are future workers, the need for them to "take the P vitamins", that is, punctuality, perfect attendance, pleasant personality, positive attitude and protection of property.

So far, the programme has been conducted in some 20 schools, and several students, who have displayed the GIVE attitude have received special trophies, donated by the Ministry of Labour, at their schools’ annual speech day and prize-giving ceremonies.
