The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which began last week and will continue until December 10, will be observed in Barbados with a number of activities organised by civil society organizations. This year’s theme is: ‘Orange The World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!

On Thursday, December 3, Soroptimist International of Barbados will host an online panel discussion on the ‘Signs of Relationship Abuse’ at 7:00 p.m. The link can be found on their Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Educational Network Support will host two forums for men only, focusing on promoting gender equality and a range of related matters.

The first session will be held on Thursday, December 3, at the Chesterfield Brewster Community Centre, Silver Hill, Christ Church; while the second will be held on Sunday, December 13, at the Police Outpost at Haynesville, St. James. Both discussions are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. 

On Saturday, December 5, the Women of Purpose Ministries will host an online ‘Gathering of Sistas’ at 5:30 p.m. on the topic: Making Your Will – Who Will Collect If You Go Unexpectedly?

The activities will continue on Monday, December 7, with the Bureau of Gender Affairs hosting a workshop to educate young men about gender-based violence. That workshop is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Lecture Theatre, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael.

The sensitisation campaign will take to The City on Tuesday, December 8, with the ‘Say No To Violence: An Orange Presence’ gathering, organised by Soroptimist International Barbados, the Pan-American Health Organization and the IMPACT Justice Department of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. It will be held on Broad Street from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

On Thursday, December 10, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies will conduct an online presentation via Zoom on the topic: Life Locked Down: Needs and Responses To Gender-Based Violence During The COVID-19 Pandemic
