Parents and guardians are being urged to have their children or wards apply for a Barbados Identification Card, on reaching the age of 16.

The request is being made by Chairman of the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Philip Serrao, who noted that the card, which carries a photograph, is required for, among other purposes, the taking of examinations. He, therefore, suggested that persons apply at the earliest opportunity before the examination period.

"The identification card will be ready for delivery eight working days after application and presentation of appropriate documentation," the Chairman stated.

He pointed out that when making an application, the minor card which had previously been issued, had to be handed over for cancellation, failing which there would be a fee of $25 payable at the time of making the request.

Mr. Serrao further explained that applicants who were Barbadian citizens were required to present their original birth certificate. However, persons who were not Barbadian citizens, but who were eligible for an identification card, were required to produce their passport and supporting Immigration documents.

Applications for the Barbados Identification Card may be made at the Electoral Office, the National Insurance Building, Fairchild Street, Bridgetown, Mondays to Fridays, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Persons can also visit their Constituency Registration Centres to apply.??gapplewhaite@barbados.gov.bb
