Government’s Community Independence Celebration’s Secretariat recently held an orientation session for Parish Ambassadors designate for 2007. It took place in the conference room, Government Headquarters, Bay Street, and was chaired by the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, Avril Gollop.

Ambassadors, along with their Attendants, were apprised of the history and expectations of the Parish Ambassadors’ Programme, in addition to the areas in which they would be assessed to be the Most Outstanding Ambassadors for 2007.

Mrs. Gollop spoke on the topic “What is Ambassadorship”. In her presentation, she advised the participants that the programme was not only about the Ambassadors and the Spirit of the Nation Show.

“The programme is life changing, based on respect and growth of young people and the creation of friendships. It also teaches young people about their communities, parishes and by extension their country”, she said.

Mrs. Gollop further advised the Ambassadors and their Attendants to be confident, ask questions at all times, read as much as possible, pay close attention to their grooming, deportment and dress and to remember to always act like an Ambassador.

In referring to their parish projects, she recommended that in choosing these, the Parish Independence Committees, the Ambassadors and Attendants should ensure that they were “sustainable, pertinent to the needs of the individual parishes and should all be completed by the final judging phase”.
