Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has described the 2015 Crop Over Season as a definite success.

He made the comments last evening while delivering brief remarks at the annual Crop Over Reception at his official residence at Ilaro Court.

Mr. Stuart told the large gathering, including Acting Governor-General, Sir Philip Greaves: ???From everything I have seen and everything I have heard, this year???s Crop Over Festival was a resounding success.

“And, that would not have been possible had it not been for the participation of Barbadians generally and of course the participation of those persons who travelled to Barbados to be a part of this annual festival.???

In thanking all for making it successful, the Prime Minister showered praise on the Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, his team at the Ministry and the National Cultural Foundation for the ???passion and the enthusiasm??? they injected into the festival. He continued: ???Once again the staff of the National Cultural Foundation lived up to expectations and certainly made Crop Over 2015 a splendid occasion.???

He also saluted those who worked in the sugar cane industry, especially the King of the Crop, Grantley Hurley, and the Queen of the Crop, Judy Cumberbatch. Mr. Hurley, who cut 175 tonnes of cane this year, has been reigning for the past 14 years, while Ms. Cumberbatch, whose tonnage was 120, has carried that title for 17 years.

Mr. Stuart quipped: ???It has occurred to me that I need to have a consultation with them to find out what is the secret to having a long unbroken reign because I am interested in having one myself??? So, the King and Queen can expect a courtesy call from the Prime Minister of Barbados sometime for that important consultation.???

Those performing during the evening included Junior Monarchs Dynamo and Ah Dee Lah; Pic-O-De Crop Monarch ???Classic???; Colin Spencer; ???Hypasounds???, iWeb, King Bubba, and Red Plastic Bag.
