Primary and secondary school students in Barbados are invited to take part in the 2016 Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Children???s Essay Competition.

It will be conducted in two age categories ??? the Junior Division, which is open to children aged 9 and 12 and the Senior Division, open to children aged 13 to 16. In each category, children should not have passed their 13th or 17th birthday by September 26, 2016.

Each student must submit one essay, written in English on the topic: If you were a cruise passenger, what would you want to see and do in your destination (BARBADOS)?

The essay must be no more than 500 words in length and handwritten or typed, with the word count included at the end of the document. Typed entries must be double spaced and in Times New Roman font, size 12.

Essays will be judged on creativity; content or subject; style or structure; and grammar. Original entries of the essay must be submitted with an entry form by the student???s school to the Barbados Tourism Product Authority, 1st Floor West Wing, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael no later than Friday, July 1, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.

Winners of the competition at the local level will receive the following prizes: Junior Division – BBD$300 and one Apple IPad Tablet for 1st place, BBD$250 along with a consolation prize for 2nd place and BBDS$200 as well as a consolation prize for 3rd place.

In the Senior Division, the first placed student awarded BBD$4000 and a cruise for two for 1st place, BBD$500 and a consolation prize are on offer for the for 2nd placed student while the 3rd placed student will be awarded BBD$400 along with a consolation prize. The schools of winning students will be awarded with book prizes.

First placed entries in the local competition will be submitted as Barbados??? entries to the regional leg of the FCCA???s Children???s Essay Competition. Winners of the regional competition, in both divisions, will receive US$3,000 for 1st place, US$1,500 for 2nd place and US$1,000 for 3rd place. An equivalent amount of money will be awarded to the school of each winning student.

Winners of the regional competition, in both divisions, will receive their prizes at the FCCA Caribbean Cruise Conference in Puerto Rico from September 26 to 30. Travel expenses for each winner and one chaperone will be paid by the FCCA.
