A record number of schools are participating in this year’s National Primary Schools’ Athletics Championship (NAPSAC) which organisers say will be ‘bigger and better’.

That is the word from Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Michael Jules, who said about 3500 athletes from 80 schools were competing in the games. He added that thousands of supporters were expected to throng the stadium, with the Transport Board reporting that several of its buses had already been chartered.

“We are very pleased with how things are progressing. Most of the sponsors are in place and everything is on stream. We are excited about the start of NAPSAC and we are appealing to the schools to ensure that the athletes arrive early because we are aiming for a 10:00 a.m. start,” Mr. Jules stated.

The zonal meets will be held every day next week at the National Stadium, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Zone One meet will start on Monday, Zone Two on Tuesday, Zone 3 on Wednesday, Zone Four on Thursday and Zone Five on Friday.

Tickets are now on sale at the National Sports Council, Blenheim, My Lords Hill, St. Michael; Barbados Union of Teachers, Merryhill, Welches, St. Michael; Cave Shepherd, Broad Street; CS Pharmacy, Lower Broad Street; and Esso Tweedside Road, St. Michael.

Mr. Jules added that there will be a “dry run on Sunday to test the system to ensure everything is functioning well”.
