4-H Club officers will learn more about their roles, as well as how to effectively  communicate and work with the media, when two one-day training workshops are staged at the Harrison College School, Crumpton Street, tomorrow Saturday, November 15,  beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Principal of the Garrison Secondary School, Matthew Farley, will deliver the keynote address during a joint opening ceremony, following opening remarks by Chairman of the 4-H Foundation, Everton Hunte.

Participants attending both workshops will benefit from a joint presentation on the ‘Principles of Good Chairmanship’ by businessman Anthony Olton from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.  as well as a ‘Closing Exercise’ facilitated by Deputy General Secretary  of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Bobby Morris, at 4:00 p.m. These apart, participants will break out into their respective sessions.

Effective Public Relations and Mass Communication’ is the theme of the communications workshop which will continue with a presentation on ‘Principles of Good Communication’ by Rommel Lawrence from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The post-lunch session will resume at 1:00 p.m.  when officers will hear from Keith Yearwood on the topic: ‘Effective Public Relations and Marketing – Media Matters’.

‘Visual Aids’ will be the focus of  a  presentation by Walter Harper, an officer  from Government’s  Audio Visual Aids Department, which will run from 2:00  – 3: 00 p.m. and   Political Scientist, Peter Wickham of CADRES, will follow with a session  on ‘Evaluation’ from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, following the opening joint presentations, the second training workshop, which is themed:  ‘Role of 4-H Club Officers’ will continue with a presentation on ‘The Role of President/ Vice President’ by Orville Lynch from 10: 45 to 11: 15 a.m.

The topics ‘The Role of Secretary’ and ‘The Role of Treasurer/ Assistant Treasurer’ will be presented by Junior Boxill and Erwin Redman between 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. respectively.

The post-lunch session will get under way from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  when Vice Chairman of the Barbados 4-H Foundation, Osmond Harewood, speaks to the topic:  ‘The Role of the Project Leader’, which will specifically target project leaders. Officers will also learn more about ‘Recreational Activities’ when Workshop Coordinator, Wayne Morris, addresses this area.

A group session will be held from 2: 00 – 3: 00 p.m. and a reports and evaluation exercise is slated to run from 3: 30 until 4:00 p.m.

Participants in the officers and communications workshops will converge at 4:00 p.m. for the closing exercise with Bobby Morris of the BWU.
