As Government seeks to attract more international companies interested in outsourcing aspects of their businesses, Minister of State in the Prime Minister???s Office, Senator Darcy Boyce, has welcomed an offer by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to assist.

During a courtesy call with Chief Executive of the ACCA, Helen Brand, last Tuesday, Senator Boyce stated that Barbados was particularly interested in attracting business outsourcing from international legal firms and information technology companies.

In the future, he said, accounting firms and companies involved in pharmaceutical research would also be targeted.

He said that Barbados would want to position itself as a regional hub, possibly in partnership with Trinidad, to build the numbers needed to service international jurisdictions.

Ms. Brand told the Minister that this was an area in which the ACCA could offer assistance because the global body for professional accountants had a lot of expertise and had introduced a specific suite of qualifications tailored to the global business environment.

The two parties also discussed other possible areas of cooperation such as accounting principles for public sector accounting, risk management and e-government.
