Issues surrounding enhanced agricultural techniques, China/Barbados relations, poverty alleviation and the double taxation treaty between the Netherlands and Barbados, were among the topics discussed, when the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Barbados, Lucita Moeniralam, paid a courtesy call on Acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

During the meeting at Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael, yesterday, Ms. Moeniralam, who was also accompanied by Counsellor for Louise de Bode-Olton and Honorary Counsel, Anthony Gittens, pledged to foster deeper ties with the island in all spheres of activity.

The Ambassador conveyed her best wishes to ailing Prime Minister David Thompson and praised the Acting Prime Minister for keeping the county afloat during this difficult period.

They also discussed the coming political changes for ??the Netherland Antilles and Barbados’ attempts in helping to finalise the establishment of the Single Market and Economy.

In the area of poverty alleviation, Mr. Stuart noted that the Dutch nation was spending four billion Euros annually to eradicate poverty and conceded that post-colonial Caribbean nations were playing catch up in poverty alleviation.
