A number of activities will soon be staged by the Bureau of Gender Affairs and its partners to observe Father’s Day.

On Sunday, June 19, the actual day, there will be a service at St. Mary’s Church, the City, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Fathers Keeping Families Together is the theme of a one-day summit for men, to be held on Tuesday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. at the Clock Tower, Garrison, St. Michael. Those men who do not belong to groups, but are interested in attending the discussions should contact the Bureau at 310-2106 to register.

During the day, there will be a panel discussion focusing on health, religion and youth, among other areas, and panellists will be Anderson Kellman, Pastor Colin Thorne, Jason Francis and Dr. Damian Henry.

In addition, there will be a number of presenters, including attorney-at-law Andrew Pilgrim on Machoism and the Law and Executive Director of the Barbados Family Planning Association, George Griffith, on Men and their Responses to the Use of Contraceptives.??????

The events will culminate on Wednesday, June 22, with a Fathers vs Sons T20 Tape Ball Cricket Match at Dover Playing Field, Dover, Christ Church, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate in all the activities.

Father’s Day celebrations started in the early 20th century to honour "fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society". It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in many countries and complements Mother’s Day.
