The Division of Youth Affairs will celebrate National Youth Week from Sunday September 27, to Saturday, October 3.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland, highlighted the planned activities during his remarks to celebrate International Day of Peace.

The activities will begin on Sunday, September 27, with the Richard Herbert Memorial T20 cricket match, which is held in memory of a former youth commissioner.

On Wednesday, September 30, which will be celebrated as Caribbean Youth Day, there will be a National Youth Stakeholders’ Consultation with major players who provide programmes and services to the youth. The consultation will look at such areas as: identifying synergies to streamline programmes and eliminate duplication and fragmentation; and strengthening intervention programmes by increasing collaboration and identifying priorities to focus attention.  The outcome will be a policy paper to guide policymakers and stakeholders in youth development on appropriate actions to address youth challenges.

There will also be a launch of the GenU Report, which was conducted by UNICEF, which reports on the circumstances of Barbadian youth in all fields of endeavour. Culminating the activities will be a Youth Enterprise Expo being hosted by the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme.  It is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, where young entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to showcase their products and services to the general public.
