Issues related to gender-based violence will come to the fore over the next two months, as the Bureau of Gender Affairs participates in 16 days of activism, intended to show such violence as a violation of human rights.

Internationally, activities begin on Tuesday, November 25 ??? International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and end on Wednesday, December 10 ??? Human Rights Day, under the theme: Let???s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women.

However, the Bureau, along with stakeholders, will commence activities a little earlier with a panel discussion next Tuesday, November 18, entitled Violence: Causes and Solutions.

It is being organised by the Anglican Men???s Association and will be held at St. David???s Church, Christ Church, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

This will be followed by a Family Day hosted by Mount Zion Missions Inc. on Saturday, November 22, under the theme: One Man a Month, at the Emmerton Playing Field and Community Centre, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The following day, Sunday November 23, there will be a church service at the Mount Zion Church in Rock Dundo, St. James, at 10:00 a.m.??

On Friday, December 5, the Bureau will host a Gender-Based Violence Display at its offices, located in Baobab Towers, Warrens, St. Michael. That same day has been designated National Wear Purple Day.

The next day, Saturday, December 6, the Mothers??? Union will stage a panel discussion on Abuse and its Effects on Children, at George Lamming Primary School at Flint Hall, St. Michael at 4:00 p.m.

Gathering of the Sistas is another event being hosted during the period. Organised by Women of Purpose Ministries, it will come off at the Cave Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church, on Saturday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m.

Activities will culminate on Saturday, December 13, with a Rally and Thanksgiving Ceremony coordinated by the Girl Guides??? Association and held at their Pax Hill headquarters, Belmont Road, St. Michael, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
