On Wednesday, June 15, Barbados will join with other countries around the world to host a number of activities to observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.??

The activities, which are a collaborative effort of the National Assistance Board and the National Committee on Ageing, will begin with a church service on Sunday, June 12, at the Church of the Nazarene, Bank Hall, St. Michael, at 10:30 a.m.

The following Wednesday, June 15, a panel discussion will be held at the Queen???s Park Steel Shed, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The discussion will focus on different aspects of elder abuse, including its mental impact; the church and the community response; the police response; as well as the legal perspective.

Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, will deliver brief remarks at both events.??Members of the public are invited to attend.
